A day to explore the trail leading from our campground towards Ptarmigan Lake only 3.5 miles away. The trail started out as a beautifully constructed trail covered with gravel and lined with wooden boards following a lovely creek. At the first junction it suddenly changed into a occasionally maintained, minimally constructed trail. In the woods and brush the mosquitoes became rather annoying, but forest and views were worth it. About a half a mile short of the lake we decided to head back to camp as we had reached our limit. It was a hot day (for Alaska) so after arriving back we drove the six miles to Moose Pass to the fudge store for cold drinks and fudge.
