Day 26 (July 16) – Palmer to Ptarmigan Creek CG

Headed south for a three day camping trip to Ptarmigan Creek  Campground about 23 miles north of Seward and 100 miles south of Anchorage. The weather was questionable in the morning in Palmer with a few rain showers but improved during the day as we went south. We stopped along the way at Portage Lake to visit the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center. The Portage Glacier used to visible from this point but has now retreated around the corner and can only be seen up close by taking a short boat trip which we declined. When we reached our campground the weather was mostly cloudy but dry with significantly fewer mosquitoes than anywhere else we had been in Alaska and the Yukon.
